The Red Hill Truffles team is excited to introduce a range of winter black truffle hunts for the 2023 Australian season and a new truffle menu.

The Red Hill Truffles Fest is a smorgasbord of hunts (public & private), tasting plates, brunches, restaurant lunches, fresh truffles and truffle products to enjoy at home. This unique Mornington Peninsula winter hunt experience includes Jenny McAuley’s introduction to the world of Périgord black truffles, with an Australian flavour. Guided hunts in the truffiere are led by our skilled truffle hunter Maddie, an English Springer Spaniel, & our very favourite (and famous) “food nerd” Fiona Hammond.

Fiona’s passion for seasonal, local produce, (as captured in her most recent book Gather Mornington Peninsula) extends to truffles - from hunting through to serving dishes perfect for savouring these very special fungi.

As part of a hunt, it may be possible for guests to unearth & prepare truffles. Fresh truffles are available for sale.

All Red Hill Truffles products are prepared locally using our truffles. They include salt, mustard, honey, aioli, butter, and mushroom paste.

Truffle Hunt & Lunch

$195 per person

Truffle hunting in winter is quite simply exhilarating.

In the spirit of European truffle hunts, rugging up against the cold, exploring outdoors, meeting new people (& terrific truffle hunting dogs) while learning about a whole new food experience from experts, creates a sense of accomplishment. Afterwards, in the rustic pavilion warmed by a log fire, and served a truffle menu, it’s easy to imagine the whole thing should be your daily activity.

The lunch:

  • Winter white soup with truffle (GF, V) & crusty bread,

  • Home-made wood-fired pizza with freshly shaved truffles (GF, V options)

  • Truffle cheese board with truffle honey (GF), (V option)

  • Hazelnut cake (GF, V) with truffle custard (V option).

Truffle Hunt & Brunch

$195 per person

Sundays have their own special appeal.

In a perfect world they should be relaxed, fun, and a little bit indulgent, which is exactly how our Sunday truffle hunting brunch events pan out. The hunts start early enough not to be onerous - a stroll through the truffiere taking in the oaks, hazelnut trees & perhaps native fauna with the help of trained dogs & a recipe creator of note boosts energy levels. Finally, finding truffles & savouring them with a brunch you haven’t had to prepare, all adds up to one great Sunday.

The brunch:

  • Winter white soup with truffle (GF, V) & crusty bread,

  • Scrambled eggs with freshly shaved truffles (GF)

  • Truffle cheese board with truffle honey (GF), (V option)

  • Hazelnut cake (GF, V) with truffle custard (V option).

Truffle Hunt & Pizza

$169 per person; $89 under 12

Pizza is a delicious & simple way to tell a local story about food.

The aroma of freshly baked wood-fired pizza is usually enough to get most people reaching for a slice - maybe debating pineapple as a topping.

We like to think of our home-made pizza as a delicious finale to hunting truffles and detecting their aromas as they are taken from the ground.

For pizza lovers & truffle aficionados alike, our pizzas made with freshly shaved Red Hill Truffles are a surprising treat, that tell the relatively new story of truffle farming on the Mornington Peninsula.

Fresh truffles are available to impress on your next pizza night when you can mention hunting for this very special topping. (Truffle pizza best not served with the LOT).

Truffle Hunt & Lunch at Max’s

$220 per person

A truffle-inspired lunch prepared by a talented chef, enjoyed in a dining room overlooking the Red Hill hinterland mid-week is like a long-awaited holiday.

Combined with a morning truffle hunt the package is an exciting escape from a weekly routine with an opportunity to discover black winter truffles on our family farm.

Guests are welcomed by our tour partner Danielle, owner, and operator of MP Experience tours, along with our eager truffle hunting English Springer Spaniels,

The hunt begins with Jenny McAuley sharing her truffle story before guests are escorted into the truffiere to uncover the well concealed fungi.

The hunting adventure concludes at nearby Max’s Restaurant with truffle dishes (2 courses with a glass of wine) prepared using Red Hill Truffles.

Truffle Hunt & Black Gold Dinner

$249 per person

The experience of an afternoon winter truffle hunt followed by dinner showcasing truffles, is a revelation of the world surrounding the knobbly, pungent fungi.

The gourmet jewel often referred to as black gold or a kitchen diamond has a fascinating history explained at the outset of the hunt by our aficionado Jenny McAuley.

Exploring the truffiere with truffle-hunting dogs, uncovering hidden truffles, & drinking in their aroma awakens the senses.

A truffle dinner at Max’s Restaurant is the final piece of the jigsaw where guests can indulge in the flavours truffles impart with each dish.

The hunt starts at 2.30pm & the dinner starts at 6.30pm.

We recommend some time relaxing after the hunt in preparation for an evening of fine dining.

Truffle Hunt & Tasting

$129 per person; $89 under 16

Truffle hunting for families with tweens & teens keen for a school holiday activity with a difference.

This hunt is designed as a fun introduction to farm life with working dogs (the truffle hunters) our world of truffles & even native Australian creatures including kangaroos, cockatoos, & echidnas.

The hunt finishes with a warming truffle soup in the pavilion, a crackling fire & an opportunity to get to know the dogs better - all of which may even spark some ideas for future careers from farming to being a chef.

On Wednesday there is an option to go to Max’s Restauarant for a 2 course truffle lunch and a glass of wine.

Fresh truffles & truffle products are available for sale as a treat for any new truffle converts.
